Excellent Video – Joe Dihl

Posted by Tim 31 Mar, 2008

Joe Dihl is one of the kindest and most sincere people I’ve ever had the privilege to meet.
He is a huge asset to the sport of Windsurfing and he happens to be a great sailor too.

Ezzy Welcomes Russ Faurot to the Team

Posted by Tim 11 Mar, 2008

Ezzy Sails welcomes Russ Faurot to the team!

Russ Faurot

Russ has been using Ezzy for years, but now he is going to become a much closer member of our family. While in Maui, Russ will be doing some testing with David Ezzy. On the mainland Russ is going to be joining Tim Ortlieb in a west coast dealer run and will be actively participating in our demo program in the Gorge this summer. Expect lots of big things out of this guy!

Russ in the Gorge

Hey Russ, tell us about how you got into windsurfing.

I started windsurfing with my family back when I was 13 years old. I was hooked even before day 1. My parents are from Portland, OR and each summer, we would drive 1800 miles from my home in Kansas out to Portland. The final stretch on I84 goes right through the Gorge, where I saw all these people flying back and forth across the river. The car would shake due to the intense winds. It was awe inspiring. We all started together on our local lake in Lawrence Kansas where we purchased our first set of gear from the Phil Zone. Lots of people know Phil in the Gorge from the River City Saloon, but he used to run a windsurf shop in Kansas and sail with the rest of us on Clinton Lake.

Where are you from? How many years have you been sailing the Gorge and Maui?

I was born and raised in Lawrence, KS and windsurfed after school, and on the weekends if it was windy. Any time there was wind, all else was cancelled except school (usually). I once got pulled over on my bike speeding away from campus so that I could get to the beach sooner. Apparently, I ran a couple stop signs and cut off a pedestrian. The officer threatened to give me a $92 ticket, but let me off with a warning when I explained my wind addiction. I have been splitting my time between the Gorge and Maui for the past 4 years windsurfing full time and working in shops to pay the bills.

Which is your favorite?

I love Maui for the waves and consistent 4.7 conditions, but it’s hard to beat a classic day at the Wall on a 3.5 in the Gorge. Overall I am a wave sailor, but the flat Maui summers and the fun of the Gorge keeps me coming back to Oregon.

What are your latest moves that you are working on?

Everything one handed, wave 360s goiters, and lots more.

Would you say you are ‘old school’ or ‘New school’ when it comes to your sailing style?

I guess I am more “old school”, but I have some new school tricks that I am working on too. I mix some freestyle into my sailing, but I really like the big power moves like back loops, push loops, and forwards. I want to go for a push forward in the future.

Plans for the summer?

I will fly from Maui to make a quick stop back in Kansas to pick up the family truck full of gear. Then I will drive to the Gorge for work at the new Windance Boardshop. I plan to take a West Coast trip to Southern Cal. for some demo days with Ezzy sails, and get as much water time as is possible.
Keep living the dream.

Welcome aboard the Ezzy Team Russ!
